As a young mom, I was on my knees in my morning prayer time crying out to the Lord about the tragedy of abortion and how it had affected my life and was continuing to effect it. As I cried out to Him about it, He ever so gently asked me, “What are you going to do about it?” Wow that clearly was a direct question. At this point I got up off my knees and I got out the phone book scanning the yellow pages I found “ABBA, Women's Choice. I did not know exactly what this organization was all I knew from the ad that it read, “Abortion alternative” and I knew He was directing my steps to be a voice to the voiceless.
As a teenager I volunteered at our local pregnancy center. I was too young to be a client advocate, so I cleaned out the attic and helped with behind-the-scenes work. My desire to support and help women and to continue to help at crisis pregnancy centers only grew as time went on, so when I moved to Maine in 2021, I found ABBA. I reached out to volunteer, but my work schedule conflicted with the times they were offering. A few months later, I was notified that they were searching for a new Office Manager. I felt a nudge from the Lord to apply, and everything fell into place. I am so thankful to be a part of this incredible and life-changing ministry!
As a practicing OB-GYN, I have often seen patients struggle with making decisions around an unplanned pregnancy. ABBA offers a safe place for women to learn about all of their options so they can make an informed decision, often choosing life over an abortion. I appreciate how ABBA's caring volunteer advocates continue to meet with many clients throughout their pregnancies, helping them to achieve a healthy pregnancy and prepare them for parenthood. ABBA brings compassion to women at a critical time in their lives, opening the door to learning more about the saving grace of Jesus.
Abba is where I found my own healing. I was amazed at the compassion and care by the entire staff and I felt God nudging me to be a part of this incredible ministry. I started volunteering, first as a co- facilitator for the post abortive bible study (PACE) and most recently God opened a door for me to learn and achieve a sonographer position as an employee. I feel blessed everyday to be the hands and feet of Jesus as we care for our patients medical, emotional and spiritual needs. Only God can take our pain and make it beautiful by helping others. I now have the privilege of helping women make one of the most important decisions of their lives and showing them the love of Christ, by supporting them in a non-judgmental, professional way.
